Abstract

In the context of learning the teacher has an important role for students to determine the learning mechanism, in order to produce learning according to what is planned. In this article, the author discusses literacy culture as the key to inquiry-based social studies learning which is a method to emphasize student learning as a basic foundation for logical and data-based thinking in analyzing a problem, both in-class and out-of-class problems. With this, students are taught to get used to a culture of literacy as a development of their potential to grow self-confidence in answering the problems they face. In this study the authors used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, with research subjects in class 7H- IPS at MTs Negeri 2 Jember. The techniques used in data collection are observation, tests and documentation. The results in this study of the IPS learning method with literacy as the key in the inquiry method are considered successful in growing students' self-confidence and critical reasoning by using literacy as the key in thinking and solving problems, this can be proven by one of the students who succeeded in taking the MTs Acceleration Class Education for 2 years, with this learning system.
